Product tanker TRADEWIND PASSION collided with floating bridge Demerara Harbour Bridge in Demerara river, Georgetown, Guyana, at around 0200 LT Oct 8, while proceeding upstream to Guyoil pier or terminal, with cargo of fuel. The bridge was seriously damaged and rendered inoperable, though probably it will re-open, at least partially, by Oct 10. Not clear what happened and why retractable span of the bridge closed before tanker, last of 5-ship caravan scheduled for passage. Bridge is open for navigation once a day, to let pass large sea-going vessels. Tanker reportedly, also sustained damages. As of morning Oct 10 she was still in Georgetown, understood already completing cargo offloading.
