Major fire erupted on board of fish factory ALEUTIAN FALCON, berthed at Takoma port, at night Feb 17. Firefighting continued well into morning Feb 18, several engines and tugs were deployed in firefighting, but firefighters couldn’t board the ship because of ferocity of fire. In the morning the ship developed a visible list, hull cracks were reported, so tugs had to switch to hull cooling. Firefighting was further complicated by a large quantity of ammonia, stored on board of the ship or near, it’s not clear. Reportedly, by 0530 LT (UTC -8) Feb 18, fire was put under control.
