Fire in bulk carrier hold, Rotterdam UPDATE

Sep 9 1630 UTC UPDATE: As of afternoon Sep 9, fire was still on, cargo hold was closed to prevent hazardous fumes from spreading around in port and neighbouring areas. Understood the ship was loading scrap metals, including lithium batteries.

Fire erupted in cargo hold of a bulk carrier berthed at Botlek Rotterdam in the afternoon Sep 8, firefighter teams reportedly took fire under control. Cargo of lithium batteries said to caught fire. Understood the ship in question is COSCO’s bulk carrier AN CHANG, berthed at Rotterdam since Sep 2. As of 0220 UTC Sep 9, aux port boats and a tug were nearby, firefighting probably still continuing.
