Indian coaster beached in storm, 16 crew rescued VIDEO

Early in the morning Jun 17 MRCC Mumbai was alerted by phone call from general cargo ship MANGALAM, reporting that the ship was pushed aground by storm at coast of Raigad district south of Mumbai. Second officer said the ship is taking on water, 16 crew are about to abandon the ship. Indian Coast Guard sent a CG ship and scrambled helicopter, crew were strongly advised to stay on board and wait for rescue. In challenging weather conditions, CG ship’s lifeboat or boats, and helicopter, managed to rescue all crew. MANGALAM was en route from Mumbai to Rebdanda port, understood she was disabled due to mechanical failure, and couldn’t stand against onshore wind and waves.
