Cargo ship sank, crew rescued, Taiwan Strait

Cargo ship XING HANG 868 reported water ingress and sinking at 1922 LT July 31 near Meizhou island, north of Quanzhou, Fujian Province, Taiwan Strait. Vessel with 900 tons of sand was en route from Hainan to Ningbo and was caught in adverse weather. SAR was launched, SAR ship DONG HAI JIU 111 (IMO 9326469) and nearby passing vessels were engaged. Notwithstanding rough weather, SAR ship DONG HAI JIU 111 managed to rescue all seven crew, no injures reported. XING HANG 868 sank. On a photo DONG HAI JIU 111 rescuing freighter’s crew, which managed to evacuate into liferaft.
