Laker KAYE E BARKER contacted raised Nitschke Bridge on Fox river, Green Bay city, Green Bay, Lake Michigan, in the afternoon July 16, while proceeding in northern direction, reported “Green Bay Press Gazette”:
…the ship Kaye E. Barker struck the CityDeck, left a boat of 16 to 18 feet in pieces, and sent kayaks tumbling from the dock into the water. The Barker then smacked the Nitschke bridge. The Barker had earlier delivered coal to the C. Reiss Coal Co on the river’s western shore just south of the Don A. Tilleman Bridge at Mason Street…
Bridge remained open for more than two hours, understood for a safety check, because bulk carrier contacted fenders, not bridge itself, so bridge wasn’t damaged. KAYE E BARKER was taken to a dock in the north of the city, as of 0230 UTC July 17 she was still docked. No reports on vessel’s damages.
