SAR boats were deployed, firefighting team boarded the ship, fire was extinguished. Vessel was disabled by fire, and had to be towed to Messina, arriving there in the morning July 12. Hazardous materials (nuclear substances mentioned) said to be transported on board, vessel was attended to in Messina with all necessary precautions.
