Greek CAPT ABEDA delayed port call probably because of sanctions

General cargo vessel CAPT ABEDA arrived at Kerch Strait Anchorage in Black sea on June 7, en route from Thessaloniki Greece to Berdyansk, Ukraine, Azov sea. As of morning June 11, vessel was still at Kerch Strait Anchorage. Most probably, owner of the vessel is fearing possible detention in Berdyansk by Ukrainian authorities, for violating international sanctions imposed on Crimean shipping after the peninsula was annexed by Russia in spring 2014. Vessel called Sevastopol Port in June 2014, under the name of HASSAN D, and because of this illegal call, may face detention and fine. In June 2014 vessel had another owner, Lebanon company Barhoum Maritime Co, Moldova-flagged. She was sold to Greek company in 2015, but she still may be detained. Situation unclear, probably owner is trying to settle potential dispute, to make sure vessel won’t encounter legal problems in Berdyansk. Vessel is in ballast.
